Nagpur Violence Updates: CM Fadnavis Calls It a Premeditated Conspiracy, Urges Peace

Nagpur Violence: Fahim Khan Arrested as Mastermind Behind the Riots

KKN Gurugram Desk | The ongoing violence in Nagpur has raised concerns across Maharashtra, prompting state officials to take swift action. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has described the violence as a “premeditated conspiracy” that targeted specific establishments and houses in central Nagpur. As the situation worsens, with clashes breaking out following a protest against the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb, both the state government and the police have emphasized the importance of restoring peace and maintaining law and order.

Nagpur Violence: What Happened?

On Monday night, Nagpur witnessed a violent eruption, allegedly triggered by protests against the tomb of Aurangzeb. The violent mob’s actions escalated quickly, resulting in the vandalism of several houses, vehicles, and properties. The disturbances continued through the night and have led to the imposition of a curfew in several parts of the city.

According to reports, the violence resulted in injuries to at least 12 police personnel, including three Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), who were severely hurt during the unrest. One senior police officer was reportedly attacked with an axe. In addition, five civilians were also injured, and one was admitted to the ICU. The severity of the situation prompted the Maharashtra government to respond with heightened security measures.

Fadnavis Responds to the Violence

In the aftermath of the violence, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke in the state legislative assembly and described the incident as a “planned and coordinated attack” aimed at disrupting social harmony in Nagpur. He mentioned that the mob involved in the attack had weapons and a trolley filled with stones, assembled specifically for causing chaos and disturbing public order.

Fadnavis assured the people that no one involved in the attack would be spared, regardless of their religious identity. He emphasized that the state’s government would take strict action against anyone found guilty of inciting violence. The Chief Minister also pointed out that the protest and subsequent violence had been orchestrated with the intent of escalating tensions.

“Anyone who is found guilty of attacking police officers will face severe consequences,” Fadnavis affirmed. He also stated that police were actively investigating the cause and origin of the violence and were gathering evidence to identify those responsible for orchestrating the chaos.

Chhaava Movie’s Impact on the Violence

The violence has been closely linked to the growing tensions surrounding the Chhaava movie, which has recently sparked anger among certain sections of the population. Fadnavis attributed the rise in public outrage against Aurangzeb to the impact of the film, which reportedly portrays the Mughal emperor in a negative light.

“The Chhaava movie has ignited anger against Aurangzeb, but it is crucial to maintain peace in Maharashtra,” Fadnavis stated. He urged the people to refrain from taking law and order into their own hands, despite the emotional trigger caused by the film. The Chief Minister made it clear that any form of rioting, regardless of caste or religion, would be met with strict action from the state government.

Fadnavis also mentioned that a complaint had been received from a Muslim delegation, and the police were investigating the matter. This statement reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of all communities and maintaining peace across Maharashtra.

Eknath Shinde’s Take on the Nagpur Violence

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also addressed the violence and called it a “targeted conspiracy” aimed at creating unrest between communities. He mentioned that the police were investigating whether the incident was pre-planned, as many people reportedly came from outside Nagpur to participate in the violence.

Shinde stressed that petrol bombs had been thrown during the clashes, further escalating the situation. He also condemned the attack on the police and reassured the public that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators.

“The violence in Nagpur is unfortunate. The police are investigating whether this was a pre-planned conspiracy. Four senior police officers, including DCP-level officers, were injured in the incident. The Chief Minister is reviewing the situation, and police are working swiftly to ensure that those responsible are caught,” Shinde said in his statement. He reiterated the government’s resolve to maintain peace and punish those behind the violence.

A Call for Peace and Harmony

Both Fadnavis and Shinde appealed to the people of Maharashtra to refrain from inciting further violence between communities. Eknath Shinde urged citizens to focus on resolving issues through peaceful means rather than resorting to violence. He strongly condemned any attempts to disrupt the state’s peace and harmony.

Shinde also highlighted the historical context surrounding the protests, which were triggered by Aurangzeb’s tomb. He stated that “Aurangzeb was a traitor and a blot on Maharashtra’s history.” Referring to the actions of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Shinde called for people to read about the martyrdom of Sambhaji Maharaj, who endured torture at the hands of Aurangzeb. The Deputy CM also emphasized that the protests were rooted in the pride of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and were not aimed at promoting communal discord.

Shinde’s comments added fuel to the ongoing debate over Aurangzeb’s legacy and the growing divide over historical narratives in India.

Curfew Imposed in Nagpur

In response to the violence and to prevent further escalation, the Maharashtra government imposed a curfew in several areas of Nagpur. The curfew was meant to control the situation and prevent any further clashes. Despite these measures, tensions remained high, and the authorities continued to monitor the situation closely.

The police were deployed in large numbers to enforce the curfew and maintain order in the affected areas. The government has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to restore peace and ensure that such incidents do not happen again.

The Political Response

The political response to the Nagpur violence has been swift, with leaders from both sides calling for action. Chief Minister Fadnavis has vowed to hold all individuals involved accountable, while Deputy CM Shinde has called for unity and peace among communities. Both leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators of violence are brought to justice.

While the violence in Nagpur has sparked outrage, the government’s immediate action aims to restore law and order and send a clear message that such acts will not be tolerated. The state’s leadership has emphasized the need for citizens to engage in peaceful dialogue and work together for the greater good of Maharashtra.

The Nagpur violence serves as a reminder of the fragile nature of communal harmony in India, particularly when historical figures and events are invoked in contemporary debates. The government’s response to the violence has been firm, with a focus on maintaining peace and security. Both Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde have condemned the violence and are taking steps to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

As the investigation continues, it is crucial for the citizens of Nagpur and Maharashtra to remain calm and united. The state’s leadership is committed to restoring peace, ensuring justice for the victims, and preventing such incidents in the future. The emphasis on peaceful protests and dialogue over violence will be key to maintaining the state’s social fabric and protecting its diverse communities.
